Emmy award-winning actor Richard Thomas, renowned for his role in ‘The Waltons’, is set to extend his portrayal of Atticus Finch in the national tour of Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. The tour, which commenced in March 2022, will witness Thomas continuing his role for the entire third touring season. Further casting announcements are on the horizon. 🎬
A Nationwide Tour
The 2023-2024 touring season is slated to cover 44 cities across North America, including encore performances in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Illinois, and Charlotte, North Carolina. The tour is also set to make its debut in several cities such as Detroit, Michigan, Toronto, Ontario, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and many others.
A Broadway Success Story
Directed by Bartlett Sher, Sorkin’s stage adaptation of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ made its Broadway debut in December 2018 at the Shubert Theatre. In February 2020, just weeks before the Broadway shutdown, the cast delivered a historic free performance at Madison Square Garden for 18,000 New York City school children. The production resumed its Broadway run in October 2021 and concluded its final performance at the Shubert in January 2022.
A Tale of Injustice and Innocence
Set in 1934 Alabama, Harper Lee’s timeless narrative of racial injustice and childhood innocence revolves around small-town lawyer Atticus Finch. The ensemble of characters includes Atticus’ daughter Scout, her brother Jem, their housekeeper and caretaker Calpurnia, their visiting friend Dill, and a mysterious neighbor, the reclusive Arthur “Boo” Radley.
