A Tony-Winning Musical

‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ bagged 10 Tony Awards in 2021, including the best musical. The show recently marked its 1,000th performance after a successful four-year run on Broadway.

Directed by Tony winner Alex Timbers, this musical is a stage adaptation of the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film. The story was adapted for the stage by Tony winner John Logan, with a creative team that includes Tony-winning choreographer Sonya Tayeh.

Just like the film, the story revolves around a young English poet, Christian, as he falls head over heels in love with the star of the Moulin Rouge, cabaret actress and courtesan Satine.

From ‘Riverdale’ to Broadway

After portraying Kevin Keller on ‘Riverdale’, the live-action CW adaptation of the Archie comics, for its entire seven-season run, Cott is ready to make his Broadway debut. The series is set to take its final bow next month.

On the personal front, Cott and his wife Nichola Basara, who tied the knot in 2021, are also expecting their first baby together — a boy, due in September.

A Dream Come True

Speaking about his latest project, Cott told Entertainment Weekly, “I’ve always been a massive Baz Luhrmann fan and there’s no surprise Moulin Rouge translates to Broadway so seamlessly. I’ve also been a massive Alex Timbers fan for many years. The two of them have created such a wonderful spectacle and it’s truly humbling to be a part of.”

He added, “Growing up as a theater kid, you just dream that one day you have the privilege of being on Broadway. It’s astounding.”
